Notable Women

Over the course of history there have been some remarkable women who have said and done amazing things and changed the world which we live in.

We would like to acknowledge their contribution to our world by starting to publish some information about some of these women so that we can all remember who they were and what they accomplished.

Bertha Benz (nee Ringer) (3 May 1849 – 5 May 1944) Bertha was the first person to drive an automobile over a long distance.

Edith Cavell (4 December 1865 – 12 October 1915) World War I hero

Gertrude Ederle (October 29, 1905 – November 30, 2003) First woman to swim the English Channel

 

Marie Curie (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934) Double Nobel prize winner

Helen Keller (27 June 1880 – 1 June 1968)  Blind and Deaf she was a political activist and lecturer

Annie Sullivan (14 April 1866 – 20 October 20, 1936) Teacher and companion to Helen Keller

Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) Nursing pioneer
