Female Ingenuity

Here are some little known women who have helped shape the world as we know it:

  • Tabitha Babbitt invented the circular saw in 1812
  • Letitia Geer invented the medical syringe in 1899
  • Mary Walton invented the locomotive chimney in 1879 and the elevated railway in 1881
  • Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar, the steel like fibre used in radial tyres, crash helmets and bulletproof vests in 1966
  • Mary Anderson invented Windscreen wipers in 1905
