Keeping Easter alive

ImageThe last post by my co-author tells of her love of Easter. This morning, being Easter Sunday in the southern hemisphere, it is tinged with a little bit of sadness for me. With all of my children almost fully grown (my ‘baby’ being 17) gone are the days of giggles and squeals of delight as the kids run through the house on the Easter Egg hunt. Gone is the awe as they finally spy their ‘big’ egg present.

Seeing the delight and excitement on little faces covered in chocolate they got to eat before breakfast is to me what makes Easter so special.

It reminds me that it is not only Easter that we now have to forge new traditions around, Christmas, birthdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, they are all different now. It would be very easy to let the specialness of these types of days and events drift away in a fog of teenage / young adult indifference and self absorption. If we allow them to fade all together and stop celebrating them at all what becomes of the family?

So on this Easter morning I realise that my family faces the challenge of creating a new way celebrating so that we ensure that we continue to come together and re-connect, at least until the grand kids come along and the cycle begins again.
