Is 40 the new 50?

Someone said to me the other day that finding another job would be difficult for me because of my age.  I was a bit surprised about that because while I am aware of the issue I didn’t think it would come up until I was in my 50’s and I am currently only in my early 40’s.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I would be interested in your comments.

It should not be a problem depending on your skills and need of your skills. I am not in my forties yet, but I have come across that painful statement. I am in my thirties and It is just an excuse by young human resource recruiters/ hiring managers that are too green to know about the benefits of a well rounded staff. These guys also think maturity/ experience is overrated, LOL! I have run into this problem with large businesses. I have had more luck with realistic job hunts in small business sector.

    • I’m surprised to hear you would told that in your 30’s. That certainly makes me feel better and I think you are right about green hiring managers. I have been on the hiring side of things as well and I really value experience as well as good work ethic, another underrated quality.
